
Cabbagetown Art & Craft Sale has to be my favourite event of the year. I love outdoor art festivals and I love Cabbagetown. This festival is quite big and aside from the amazing artists who showcase their work, there are always tons of folks with children and dogs who come out and have fun. Solar Stage Children’s Theatre (Yonge & Sheppard) presents the interactive story of Rumplstiltskin starting this weekend (until Oct. 3rd). The play is appropriate for ages 3-10. This Saturday only, tickets are $11 ea.
The Butterfly Migration Festival sounds amazing for nature lovers! It takes place at Tommy Thompson Park (Leslie & Lakeshore Blvd). Observe migratory Monarch Butterflies as they prepare to head South. This festival is part of a series of province-wide conservation-focused, family-friendly action and education events sponsored by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in partnership with Ontario Nature, LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests) and the Bruce Trail Conservancy.
Milliken Children’s Festival is organized by the Town of Markham and takes place on Saturday, Sept. 12th 10am-6pm at the Markham Civic Centre (Hwy. 7 & Warden). There will be great entertainment, activities for kids, crafts, pony rides, petting zoo and rides.
Richmond Hill Live Steamers is having their Fall Open House on Saturday, Sept. 12th (10:30-4:00pm). Whazzat? Well, the Richmond Hill Live Steamers is a non-profit live-steam club whose members are dedicated to building and operating scale model steam, electric and diesel locomotives. Train lovers of all ages can learn about locomotives and take a ride on the miniature train.
McNally Robinson Book Store at the Shops on Donmills, has two interesting events this coming weekend. Laura Numeroff will be reading and signing the books Would I Trade My Parents?, What Sisters Do Best & What Brothers Do Best. This program is suitable for children 3-8 yrs. old and takes place on Saturday, Sept. 12th at 3pm in the event room on the 2nd floor. On Sunday, Sara Dimerman, a child and family therapy expert, launches her book – Character is Key. She will talk about improving communication in the family and modeling and teaching important character attributes in order to bring out the best in our kids and ourselves.
