This Weekend? (Nov. 7 & 8th)

Boys Playing in the Leaves

McNally Robinson is the big bookstore at The Shops on Donmills.  This Saturday (3pm), take your kids to an author book reading & signing (ages 5-8).  The featured author is Nan Forler who wrote the book Bird Child.  Bullying and the ability to rise above it are at the heart of this beautiful picture book.  Other than the meaningful topic that all kids can relate to, meeting an author is an inspiring experience all on its own.

Visit the Children’s Trunk Show at the Distillery District on Friday (9:30-4:30) and Saturday (10am-3pm) for great shopping of unique products by mom-run businesses.  There will be childcare available for ages 1-5.  Other perks include complimentary massage and and a special nursing & baby-changing zone.  $7 admission.  I don’t think these shows should charge admission…but I might go anyway.

Enjoy Family Sundays at McMichael Canadian Art Collection (Kleinburg).  Kids will draw inspiration from the Bartram exhibit and learn about landscape through activities.

St. Lawrence Market is celebrating its 205th aniversary on Saturday (9am-4pm).  Buskers, performers, cooking demonstrations, and children’s activities on site…and of course, lots of yummy food.

Visit the Body Worlds & The Story of the Heart Exhibition @ The Ontario Science Centre.  This amazing exhibit gives visitors an amazing view into the human body with over 200 human specimens.

Visit the 2009  Hobby Show & Games Show at the International Centre (Airport Rd., Mississauga) on Sat. 10am-9pm & Sun. 10am – 6pm.  Everything from doll houses and miniatures to models, trains and video games.  Use this coupon to save $3 off your admission.

Visit the York Region Baby & Kids’ Show as well as the big Mom to Mom Sale (at the Markham Fairgrounds)  on Saturday from 9:00am-1pm.  $3 admission to both.  The Baby & Kids Show offers a market place, exhibits about York Region resources for kids & parents, and lots of things for the kids to do – exotic animal sh, face painting, magicians, clowns, crafts, etc.  The Mom to Mom Sale is a huge rummage sale where you can buy lots of gently used toys, furniture and gear directly from the seller.
